This is not what a newspaper is all about

The Times of India is carrying this article, in which it says that the rope used to hang Mohd Afzal is worth Rs. 675. ....

According to me, this news sucks, and it is not good that a reputed newspaper is printing such news.. Why? Simply, because, this is just riding on a popular news story, which is fine, but the story involves the hanging of a person. I am not really clear about whether the death penalty is good or bad to society, but at least, such news stories surrounding the hanging is not a good sign.....

Even when Dhananjay Chatterjee was executed, television serials showed interviews of the officers, the person who hung the culprit, their children...I mean...what the hell? .......Instead concentrate on bigger issues, farmers dying of starvation, people in Kashmir still struggling with their lives, corruption in big cities, and government policies. True, Mohd Afzal was big news, but then print news thats relevant and respectful....May God forgive him...

Agreed. This is one the areas where media is not very constructive.

vwIt almost sounds like they are covering shooting of a movie.

Typically it is sort of masala coverage where they tell gossip hungry readers the price of the necklace worn by the actress and stuff like that.

Must say, TOI editorial team not doing their job.

I agree in toto Harshit.
I am a journalist myself and it hurts to see some people driving the profession down the drain!
In India, currently media is hot business with n number of channels and newspapers springing up each day. Due to this, journos run to get exclusives, no matter how unimportant and stupid they may be.
I remember a funny incident with Zee news. At the time of Tsunami attack in 2004, the anchor in the Zee studio was asking the reporter at site " Kaafi log aise hai jinki laashe nahi mil paayi hain...kya aapki unse mulakaat hui? or woh is waqt kya mahsoos kar rahe hai?!!!!!"
